Drawing Assignment due Thursday 9/13:
Prepare one (min.) or a series of VECTOR drawings (not renderings!) re-representing one (or several) photographs or renderings of your physical or digital pasta assembly. If anyhow possible, this should be prepared as a digital drawing. The re-representation shall be a 70-80% redrawing of the assembly and 20-30% your interpretation / reading of the composition.
Be very mindful of line-weight and line-style!

Material Study:
In the Material Study, which comprises the first third of the semester, the Fundamentals design studio seeks to introduce students to approaches to form and space-making through the investigation of material potentials, limits, and performance. This approach to design proposes that new formal and spatial potentials can emerge out of processes of formation and material properties that are not merely solution-based responses to functional requirements and constraints. Material properties, including flexibility, memory, strength, and transparency, are manipulated through a range of analog and digital tools and techniques to generate serial unitized proto-architectonic models that explore a range of spatial conditions including gradient progressions from surface to volume, structure to skin, and enclosure to aperture. These formal investigations of aggregation and assembly are understood as studies of the potentials of emerging design and fabrication technologies and their role in the production of architecture. Further iterations are investigated at both the unit and global scales to generate a range of potentials for inhabitation that will be employed in the project phase of the semester.
